About Me |
I come from a small farming town, in the north of England. My rural upbringings sparked an appreciation for the natural muted colours of the countryside, with countless climbed tree's and scraped knees.
This combined with an early obsession to take things apart to observe how they work, Much to the dismay of my parents.(These objects usually did not go back together) This set me along the creative path I follow today. My love of materials started while studying 3D design at York collage. For the first time in my life I was not limited in what medium to work in, with facility's to work in anything from metal through to glass. My time at York collage existed in the divide between art and design. This is why I chose to study at Brunel University, so I could explore the design side of my interests. At Brunel I have learnt the importance of detail, and how the smallest details can make the largest impact. In my third year at Brunel I went to work for a bespoke lighting and furniture manufacture called Sculpsteel. Here I rekindled my love for materials, while working In their Arts & Craft style of manufacture. The benefits to working at a manufacturer was learning that the way products are manufactured should effect their design, to ease the manufacture process. In my final year at Brunel I have had an amazing opportunity to work in collaboration with several organisations developing the worlds first truly modular Myo-electric prosthetic hand. |
