Enhancing empathetic communication.
|
The Sharpie emotional assistant is a product targeted at helping users with affective deprivation disorders, through strengthening relationship bonds, by assisting awareness of their own emotional state and that of others.
The emotional assistant was part of a larger project looking into where the Sharpie brand could expand from its current market position, to new conceptual products. With the secondary goal of tackling the growing issue of the Breakdown of communication in the household. The device conceptually works by reading a users biometric signals. Their emotional state is then interpreted from these signals and is either mirrored back to the user or transmitted to a paired device, where a shape changing membrane tactilely translates the emotions to a recipient. This enhances the level of emotional empathy inside a relationship. Its is important to note that this was a conceptual project and did not have to be a working device or a device that relies on current technology although is grounded through my knowledge of biometric sensors. Affective deprivation disorders Is a wide term that includes conditions such as Alexithymia, people with the disorder have difficulties in distinguishing between different emotions and insufficient realisation that some physical sensations may be the manifestation of emotions. |
